neutral safety switch
Anyone know how to hook up a neutral safety switch? (The one on the column)
I got my backup lights working off it. I have two more lugs left on switch. I'm assuming I can run a wire off each lug and splice it into the wire going to solenoid. Does that sound right and if so what color is the solenoid wire on ignition switch?

Re: neutral safety switch
I've only done it on aftermarket shifters, but it sounds correct what you are describing.....solenoid wire should be purple in stock set-ups.

Re: neutral safety switch
Thanks Man, I need to get this done. I was working on backup lights and had trans in reverse, some friends came up and I started it for them and about ran over my S-10.

Yes,
On a 64 one wire goes from the far left terminal on the ignition switch (laying on the floor of the truck - looking up at the switch) to the neutral safety switch then another wire from the neutral safety switch to the starter solenoid. The factory used 12 gauge wire for this. |

Re: neutral safety switch
Since I wired the switch up, sometimes when you crank truck and pull truck in drive the starter gets activated for a split second. Has anyone ever experienced this happening to them? If so what is causing it?

Re: neutral safety switch
Found the problem, just needed to tweak the adjustment a little.
