A '99 LQ4 will have iron heads & a extended crank flange.
I would pass.....

X2. The newer heads would work on it, but why bother when you can get a newer better engine? JMHO

Re: Need Advice On A lsx Engine

Depends on the price you can get it for. You can pick up aluminum 317s for next to nothing, and the rear crank flange isn't really an issue either.

Re: Need Advice On A lsx Engine

I would definitely get an lq4. lots of the parts are swappable. You can toss all of these on there and end up with a pretty sweet engine on the cheap

ls2 throttlebody
l92/ls6 heads
ls3/l76 intake (FAST is too expensive for me)
lq9 pistons if you are staying NA

99's also had issues with the wiring, in terms of pcm compatability. If everything is together, and a good price then its worth it, otherwise there is ALWAYS another one.

A '03 LQ9 is a great engine, Why a 4L80E? LQ9's have 4L65E's behind them.
A 4L80E in a 1/2 ton truck with a stock engine is way overkill.

If the internet had its way.....Everything would have a 4L80E in it
