Subscribed!! I have been thinking about the same swap. I ran across this build from MAST Motorsports. Some good info.

Thanks,
There is some good info in that thread! This build will be slow until after the first of the new year. I have to finish up a 383 install into my 72 4x4. I have had a serious case of dragass for the last year, but the thought of a new project has helped out!

I am hoping for more info like this so I can get all my parts in order before I rip the motor out of a perfectly good pickup!

Don't know? All I know is the housing is a little bigger.

Sure wish you would get one of these so I could follow along and just copy what you do!

I still have to take an I-6 out of the 71 frame I'm going to use for mock up.
I also haven't ordered headers yet. Looking at the D Thorley headers that you used.
I seriously have to get the 4x4 done first, but I just can't get motivated.

Do you need me to find a motor and trans for you?

Sure! , I've actually found 3 candidates, but none as good of deal as yours, . I think I'm going to use the dirty dingo mounts on this build. They will allow me to move the motor further back....

HartRod, can you advise on which dirty dingo mounts you ordered? I'm getting ready to do the same thing, and I see a few different kinds...but it looked like the cut off was 73-87, and everything else was muscle car or other vehicle-specific (miata, 240sx, etc.)

Here are the ones I'm looking at:

http://dirtydingo.com/store/product_...oducts_id=1372

Any I will probably use the CPP motor stands, unless the factory ones will work.

What are you going to be doing for a shifter column since this is a six speed.

It is big enough! There are 17 different kinds of rides.
I have been blessed with this shop! Thanks!

I have spent about 40 hours in the shop since last friday! A couple of late nights with bedtime coming at 4:30 AM. My wife has been very understanding!
I have the 4x4 done ( except for fine tuning ).

Thanks Clyde......

I really wasn't fast on the 4x4.
It has been 2 years since I pulled the original motor!

I did paint the firewall, radiator support, inner fenderwells, and put on a new brake booster and master cylinder, new steering column and wheel, new wireing harness, and new motor!

I hope to get started on the LS swap soon!

John

We should still be able to use the column shifter at least for the top 4 gears (D2/D1/4/3). And this little gizmo will give us a tap shift function over all the gears:

Does Ididit column company not custom make columns for these applications?
I just sent them a question about this. Said 24 to 48 hours to respond but I am guessing the first of the week now that it is friday.

That seems easy enough! Did you already send your harness to Speartech. If you don't mind...how much $? You can pm me.

I haven't seen one advertised, but that doesn't mean they don't have one.
