Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
I bit the bullet and bought this today. It is out of a 2011 2500 2wd with 19,000 mi. It will be going in my 71 chev swb.
I need to start gathering parts. The place I bought it from didn't know which oil pan I needed, but said to find out and they would get me one at cost. So, first question. What oil pan? I have seen people using an F body pan, ctsv caddy pan, summit pans, etc. My truck has a 4/6 drop with 18/20 wheel combo. What is the best? Thanks in advance for the many questions I will be asking.

Thanks Rob! Is yours a 2011? The are a few differences over the older GenIV motors, like injectors, intake and exhaust valve material (for E85). I am just wanting to be positive that there were no changes to the oil pan or oil pickup, etc. Thanks John

Would that have to do with it being a returnless fuel injection system?

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Thanks Cline,
Do you have any other advice for this swap? I am from the Old School and don't have much experience with any motors requireing a computer! I have spent quite a bit of time on LS1tech, but not much info on the L96 and 6L90 over there. Thanks John

I am using a 98 corvette pan. Seems to be the only one that doesn't even come close to hanging down below the K member.

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Thanks Dan and Smoke! Appreciate the input.
Rob, I bought the ECE motor mounts and trans mount last year. Not sure if they will be a straight forward setup for this combo. Will probably do a test fit on a bare frame I have and see what kind of mods I will need to do. The motor should be here sometime next week....I hope. Getting excited about this project, but I have a long ways to go as far as getting all the parts! John

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product, let me know if you have any questions. If you use the ECE mounts you won't be able to use a FBody oil pan (it hits the front crossmember). I used a 2007 Cadillac CTsV pan, but there are several choices out there. The Doug Thorley Headers work well with those mounts also. You can check out my Suburban build thread for pictures of both. Here's a good thread on choosing an oil pan: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=272174 Rob

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Thanks Rob.
I bought the mounts with plans to put a 5.3 and 4L60 into a 68 GMC. I may just save the mounts for that project. What do you think about the DirtyDingo mounts? I had planned on using the same headers that you did. If I get mine running before the burb is done.....can I use the supercharger for a little while? I will probably have a lot of questions for you when I get further into the swap. John

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Thanks for the pan link. I did a search earlier, but I must have missed that one! Good info!!!!!!!!
The adjustability might be handy with the DD mounts! I would like to use the stock fan setup instead of electric fans. The supercharger would be nice to borrow, but I bet you will be ready to use it before me! John

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
I'm using ece mounts with electric fans. I don't think it will clear manual fan. When using these mounts with the trans crossmember all my factory holes lined up. Since this is my dd I chose the Holley hooker ls manifolds didn't want to deal with headers even though the thorleys are awesome plus the hookers were cheaper and fit like a glove. Just wanted to share a little info from my recent conversion

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
hope this helps.... Im running the gm muscle car pan it's shallower than the stock truck pans by 1 1/2". I'm guessing the f-body pans are close to the same as the holley pan...
