JEGS sight plugs for Holley carburator and my ignorance
When rebuilding my Holley carb I ordered those cool little clear sight plugs for $8 to make float adjustment easier and cleaner.
Yesterday, I took my truck to get it inspected and the guy doing inspections tells me to shut my truck off because it's got a fuel leak and sure enough, there was a giant puddle of gold (or gas) under the truck! This was caused by the fuel melting through the site plug and pouring out... So apparently those plugs are for adjustment only and not meant to replace the original plugs.. I sure wish the package would have mentioned that for us newbies.. |

No use crying over spilled gas.
Good news, no fire reported.

Don't feel bad, you are not the first to run those regularly.

Yep, lesson learned AND after fixing the leak it passed inspection - so 1 year after buying it I can finally use it as a daily driver!

Huh.
I've had these on my racecar for decades with no issues. Think the difference is the use of race fuel vs a daily driver with some amount of alcohol/ethanol content in the pump gas? Or - maybe Holley changed the material that they use to make these? K

Re: JEGS sight plugs for Holley carburator and my ignorance
I have never used them but always thought they were installed permantly. It seems if the floats were adjusted correctly there wouldn't be much gas leaking as the fuel level is at the bottom of the opening.

I have a set of Holley brand in my Malibu, been there for 15 years I suppose. Of course they were made in Bowling Green KY, not Beijing China. |

I too have run several sets but then again they were the Holley brand made by the folks here in the good ol USA. Never thought of that being an issue.
