I really like the natural wood projects, they look so much better than the store bought stuff. Great work.

Thanks, who knows maybe I'll get bored tomorrow and head your way. Lol.
As far as the design I built it for the mother inlaw and she likes stars. I just used the paint program on the computer and printed off a paper to use as a stencil.
I really enjoy wood working. I don't have my own shop to work in, so I use what used to be my grandfathers and his wood working tools. Which is actually my dads now.
Thanks again for the compliments.

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

Ok I'll ad some more. Today I just made an Advent Calendar that my wife asked me to make. Its made from 1x12 Pine rough cut from our old house that was built in the late 1920's possibly the early 30's real early. But I saved some wood from it.

That planter looks like a never ending chop saw nightmare! At least the entire stack is the same size and miter angle!

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

Not exactly a craft, but certainly a project. We had a 16'X32' in-ground swimming pool that we seldom used because the kids are out of state now, and unless the water was 78 deg or higher yours truly was not going in it. My wife would go in maybe twice a year if the days had been hot. Yet we still maintained it as a pool which gets expensive. I told her I was going to fill it in, or turn it into a water garden. I didn't get any arguments, so I began shoveling sand into it.
Long story short, we developed a partnership; I dug the holes and built the pergola, my wife filled the holes with plants, and Mother Nature did the rest. We spend far, far more time out there now watching the fish and enjoying the view then we ever did when it was a pool, and the season is much longer too.
The first photos are of a rain storm we had yet under the roof (tarp) we remained dry.
I also use it as a "Small Boat Test Facility" w/ RC boats.

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

Thank you Ol Blue! We have absolutely no regrets whatsoever unless it was wishing we had done it sooner. What you see is the third year, and we're still adding, although not as much because the plants are maturing and filling in creating the "isolation" we are looking for even though we are only steps from the house.

It looks great, but that had to be a lot of work getting it started. I'm sure it also takes some time to keep it up but at least you enjoy it now. Good job laying it out...

Thank you Leon. You're right, it was a lot of work in the beginning, but I was younger when I started the project. What you see in the pics is three years later. There's a little maintenance now, but even that is minimal and gives me an excuse to be out there. Another side benefit is there's less grass to mow.

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

Man, everyone's projects turned out great! Here are the latest knives that I made. The first three have red oak handles that are stained with Minwax English Chestnut stain and have one or two coats of boiled linseed oil and are finished off with about four or five coats of Tru-Oil. The last one has rosewood handles and the finish is the same as the rest other than I didn't stain it and I took the shine off from the Tru-Oil with 0000 steel wool.

Been a while since I visited this thread. Great job on the knives. I think my favorite is #2. I need to try another knife one of these days.

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

There are some immensely talented people out there.

As on poster said earlier, I also often just make stuff because I need or want it, other times, it is just because people say I cannot etc.....

I will post the build thread links on here, so you can click on the link and see the whole build. Some are extensive threads, and all are there as a guide for anyone else not to make the same mistakes I did, or to learn from or get inspired by the thread.

My background is a few years in spec forces in the military, followed by 8 years nursing (general, midwifery, psychiatry and then Occupational health and audiometry training) followed by the last 23 years as a Pharmacieutical representative.

GRIZZ-POD Teardrop trailer build.

And as things are now with my C10.

I do a bit of random woodwork, turning etc

http://www.retrorides.proboards.com/...stmas-again-19

My wife is an avid (MAD) collector of smoking pipes, so I end up making display pipe racks like these.

There are loads of other things I do, and the latest is a Birthday present for Nicola my wife that I finished last night, carved a Celtic Cross from a cinder block.

I have made knives over the years, but never anything but functional tools, one day I hope to make some artistic knives with hollow ground blades etc..

Thanks LockDoc! Knife #2 went to one of my brother in-laws for Christmas, he said he really likes it and is going to use it as a skinner. I enjoyed making them, especially shaping and finishing the handles. If you should happen to make another knife please post some pictures of it.

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

Tons of talent on this site for sure. Here is a little project I did last year.
My home is a 1960 Mid Century Modern custom, so I had to ditch the common rural mailbox and I came up with this. The starburst were actually on my neihbors front doors of his 1959 custom and when he remodeled 10 years ago he gave them to me. They sat all that time and I built the Mailbox around them.

Not to sure if I'm breaking any rules here so if I do it's not intentional, I do not sell to the general public FWIW:

I have been stitching tactical gear for the past 9 years.
It started as a bet, then 2 years later I quit my allmost 19 year job and I started doing it full time.
All products are made here in Wa. State in my shop.

And of course my very first welding project... a welding/plasma cutter cart made from scrap pieces:

Re: Let's see your homemade crafts!

I started making these crosses as I thought my e30 (my BMW) needed one for the rearview mirror. I made one, then another for the truck, now I’m making them for my special friends’ birthdays. I’ve made two bigger ones for the mirrors, and now two necklace sized ones, with plans for a few more...

The first three were scrap steel cut into strips, welded, carefully ground into the proper shape, then heat treated to a beautiful purple/blue.

My latest one is cut from a single piece of magnesium, actually a piece of the truck’s corvette pedal cluster that I cut off. It is mirror polished on one side, and 320 grit brush-finished on the other. That way it has more character and is usable in more ways, “to shiny or not to shiny”...

Hopefully she likes it, I’m going to send it to her tomorrow...

You can see the original one in this pic of the e30... It is a permanent fixture in the 30 now...

I’ll take better pics of the two I have if desired, and better lit ones of the Mg one before it goes away ...

Those are lovely.

You certainly have skills.

Now my electric cigar box guitar looks a bit simple.
