Mine also does this. I had purchased an alternator rebuild kit and replaced the diode thingy and brushes but not the bearing that goes on the shaft. I wonder if that could have been the problem? Is it a brand new alt or newly rebuilt?

ive got a similar problem ..my headlights dont dim at idle but my heater fan slows down alittle when i stop and idle ..and then the fan revs back up to full speed once i start moving again

The fan slowing down at idle sounds like a going bad battery. It should hold the volts/current at idle, Then when the rpms go up the alternater should pickup and charge the system. Amp meter checks the charging system Volt meter checks the battery condition.
The original post sounds like a bad diode in the internal regulator.
