69 pro touring/ autocross.
Sold my 68 step ls1 truck and decided I wanted a little nicer truck with a great handling suspension and of course ls drivetrain. The truck as I bought from a friend . He has already put rockers in and started shaving the firewall .
Got my ride tech front adjustable coilover suspension. Installing a high hump tunnel . Truck will have a built t56. Cut holes in crossmember and welded in 4" pipe to rout exhaust through. Welded up my trailing arms Got a factory core support with the truck that was in pretty good shape with the exception of minor rust on the bottom so I made some patch panels and welded them in. Got some in rail notches and started fitting them in lastnight. On the way I have a complete new bed 18x10 wheels front and rear , my t56, and I pick up a 2004 ls1 on Tuesday. I've got started on my engine wiring harnes. This is just a mock up motor. I'll be running this holley intake with a adapter I made to run the t.b. vertical using a round carb style air filter assembly. |

Subscribed, will be keeping an eye on this. We have similar plans and are in about the same stage of the build.

Cool idea with the throttle body, never seen that done. Hope it will clear your hood...Looking good.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
Got a little work done this morning. Made a trans x-member and got my headers test fitted. Also this week I picked up my motor. It's not in aby pictures but it's a 2004 ls1 go block that was built by a local well known engine builder Gary Grimes aka Grimes twister engines. It has roll master adjustable timing set crane cam , arp throughout , can't Remer brand but also aftermarket pistons and rings.
also made some coil relocation brackets. |

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
I am doing this also and bought a small section of pipe to use. It 1/8 in thick but it looks like you used something a bit thicker. Do you think 1/8 will work?

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
I'm sure 1/8 would be fine. This is just what I had.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
They are from Gibson. They come in stainless or ceramic coated. I'm very pleased with the quality. I am using an abnormal motor mount setup for these trucks so I can't vouch how they would fit in most other situations. The headers are made for our trucks though.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
Cool build.
Not sure if it will be an issue, but I built a trans crossmember for a LS swap G-body a few years ago, similar to what you've built, and the "channel" section of it where the exhaust passes under just didn't have enough strength for my liking. Seemed stout on the weld bench, but with the weight of the trans on it, it had to much flex. Not sure if that will be a problem with yours or not, since yours appears to be quite a bit wider and gussetted nicely, but something to be on the watch for.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
I've thought about that. I might add some more gussets under the exhaust arches to add some strength. Thanks for the input.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
Are you planning to use coilovers front and rear, or are you going to use just a spring and shock combo in the back?
Can't wait to see the 18x10 square setup, I have been trying to figure out what I want to go with. |

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.
Just coilover in front. With rear drop springs. Gonna mount rear shocks outboard of frame. Wheels should be here next week hopefully.
