Re: When it comes to TRUCKS…what has been the dumbest thing you have ever done??
Two come to mind:
1-34 years ago, me and bud (RIP) go drinking, decide to go for drive on way home in my 68 GMC. Drive through park and get caught in ditch in someone's front yard in the city. Front bumper on one side ditch, back on other side-no wheels touching. Walk through park and find 5 guys in a VW bug-stoned give us ride to bud's work (gas station) and borrow 77ish 454 low gear wrecker. Pull my truck out and race on way home. Going 97mph (411 gears) and get passed by Citation X-11 like we were still, with a guy mooning us out the passenger window. 2-have girlfriend with me (in 68 GMC) coming back from Seadooing towing a double Seadoo trailer. Go to eat and can't turn around in parking lot with trailer. Brainstorm.....Drive over railway tracks and do U turn. Front wheel gets caught between tracks and rear wheels spin on rock bed and trailer is also stuck in ditch. My German Shepard in box is barking as train is coming. Gal runs from truck screaming what a loser I am for doing this. Crowd of onlookers in restaurant looking at me. Floored truck and it ran down tracks until front wheel caught and truck freed about mile down from lot. Made girlfriend walk, and yes I married her (sigh) Last edited by ho70; 11-30-2014 at 08:53 PM. |

Re: When it comes to TRUCKS…what has been the dumbest thing you have ever done??
In 1977 I bought a wrecked 1970 C-10. I replaced the front clip. The truck originally had a 307 and 3OTT. I took those out and put in a built, son I mean a built 396 in it with a 400 transmission. I did get the correct gears for the transmission so the speedometer would be correct. Ok, not the dumb part....
The PO took out the seat out. All I had was a seat out of a 73, 74 or 75 model. I put it in, used short pieces of 2X4 to get the seat to feel almost normal. No bolts, no seat belts. The truck did not have PS or PB, but I could get the speedometer needle to go all around and peg on the 0 MPH. Again, seat not bolted down, no seat belts. And the shifter. I used the 3 speed shifter on the automatic. That took a little getting used to. ahhhh to be young and dumb and clueless....

I have another one.... this is my 95 sierra 4x4, this is what happens when you go to see how your buddy's truck is fairing in the mud pit and you drive up too fast and don't have windshield wiper fluid so you don't realize how big the mud pit is.
