1972 brake porportioning valve question please help
OK I lost my brake valve off the back of my rollback like an idiot. You would not believe how hard it is to find a replacement cast valve.... does anyone know what years will work on my 72 K10 ....thanks

You can buy new at Inline tube, a little pricy tho.

Last I looked brass replacements were available - maybe a WTB post on the parts board will help turn up a good used replacement cast piece.

LMC part 34-3200 - I bought that one - correct look and function replacement, worked fine. $225. I have not found a cost shortcut (i.e. a $99 valve). I would not go with a generic part from cpp, etc, personally.

The newer 73+ "squarebody" trucks use the same type of proportioning valve. It's mounted down on the front frame crossmember instead of up under the master cylinder. I believe you'll want to look for one in the 73 through 77 range as those years had the same type of electrical connector for the warning light switch. 1978 & newer have a different style of switch connector. I think it can be changed out for the earlier style but you'd still need to find that part off an earlier valve. And if I remember correctly, 71-72 had one front brake line exiting the prop valve that went into a Tee to split it left & right. While 73+ made use of the valve's 2 front outlets. So you may need a 3/8"-24 inverted flare plug to cap off one of the unused outlets. |
