Either extreme is a real head shaker for me, unless it's an immaculate show truck showcasing someone's workmanship or a company's abilities. I do, however, see substantial lowering of any kind of truck as a real joke - in a lot of cases it's no longer a truck, just a truck outline. If you want something that handles good and is fast, build a dang car and leave the working machine in a condition that it can work. Favorite ride height for me is stock 3/4 or 1-ton, both functionally and aesthetically. This recent fad of 4WD trucks that sit higher in the front than the back makes absolutely no sense to me - a truck that sits down in the back with no cargo is either worn out or messed up. A forward rake compliments the purpose that gained these machines their iconic status, which is hauling stuff.

You can. I think swapping in a square body crossmember up front will net you an inch of lift and 3/4 lower control arms coupled with '88 - '98 spindles and associated parts will get you another four inches.

I bought my '68 C/10 Stepside in 1973. It came with the stock 7.00 x 17.5 tires. By the late '70s that tire size was obsolete -- just couldn't get 'em anymore. So I got sold 8.00 x 17.5 instead. I was amazed at the new ride height -- a 1 inch lift just by switching tires. Eventually the 17.5'' rims gave out, and to get the same mount I now run 235/85R16LT.
I have had the springs replaced over the years to correct sag, but always back to factory or a little higher.

I have 17s on mine right now but the tire profile is pretty short. It's a good idea though.

Maybe I should try some C20 springs ... I bet that would raise it an inch or so.

You can't get the factory 6-lug 17.5 x 5.25 steel rims anymore. Even back in the day I had to state the size twice for some tire shop operators. I think it was a special military/fleet service size, designed to keep workers from stealing tires since that type was hard to find. I did have good luck with Yokohama 703[?] R17.5-8LTs. I think my truck's original owner was some fleet operator or municipality.
I don't like the ''Bicycle tire'' look either. I think a truck tire should have some meat in the rubber section.

When I had my motor and trans out in my 1970 C10 I noticed my truck looked about right in terms of ride height; especially in front so I guess I'm with the high riders; though nothing against lowering; I'd like one of each.

My truck is lowered 2.5"/4" and I love it. I have pulled trailers and hauled lots of lumber without a single problem so truck is still 100% functional. I actually plan to bag the truck at some point for ride quality and load leveling capability.

That being said I do love a stock height truck on a nice set of all terrains, they just look right. I love them all, but I cant bring myself to do anything that requires a change to the bed floor height or functionality.

I just can't understand why anyone would look all over this country to find a 45 year old truck that's still in good shape and then cut the frame up.

I like to see variety. Stock, custom, lifted 4x4s, slammed 2wd, static, bagged... that's what makes the world go around. But you guys saying bagged trucks can't haul don't know what you're talking about. You heavy haulers should be using bags, honestly.

I prefer 2wd trucks lowered and 4wd trucks lifted. I would only want stock height on a truck if it was some rare, high optioned piece that is worth more stock than modified. Just my 2 cents. Obviously I want everyone to lower their 2wds..lol

I drove my 4x4, I mean stock height 2wd C10 for 18 years as is before I lowered it 2 years ago. My DD is a 2015 Z71 4x4.

A little up or down is ok! Too much either way creates other problems. Low Budget lift for me 31/10.50s. My stock K/10 is High enough! I'm getting Lower so my Truck seems Higher every day!

Rims from SUMMIT-WHEELS VINTIQUE-RALLYS Only problem I thought I was getting outside nubs but I ended up with inside nubs so now I can't use stock caps. BUMMER! Stock ride height still on jacks with mock up wheel, should look the same on ground. HAPPY TRAILS--Only lift 31/10.50s
