Oil pressure gauge

So before I installed my new engine, I had oil leaking from the back side of my oil pressure gauge. When I installed the new engine I replaced the copper line from the engine to the gauge and got the fitting nice and snug on the back side of the gauge. Well, it still leaks, which sucks because it leaks down my dash and drips onto the passenger floor, right where I am getting ready to install new carpet. My question, has anyone seen the actual gauge leak? Like maybe I need a new gauge, or is it more likely the compression fitting that goes into the back of the gauge?

It may have the wrong fitting on the gauge end of the line. The gauge end of the line needs a compression sleeve nut to screw into the gauge. Here is what the fittings should look like. Can you post a picture of the line you bought?

I absolutely have the compression sleeve nut. The kit I bought only came with the other type, so I went to a good local mom and pop auto store and they had the compression nuts for the 1/8th inch line.

I just cant tell if it is leaking from where the oil line goes into the compression nut, or where the compression nut goes into the back of the gauge, or if it could possibly be the gauge itself.

I guess the only way you can tell for sure is to remove that gauge panel and inspect it while the truck is running.

One other little tidbit.... too tight is as bad as not tight enough - it distorts the ferrule.

That makes sense. It's really tough to tell where the leak is coming from because it's a very slow leak. It's kinda like having a plumbing leak under your sink, only you get one drip of water every 30 seconds, and you're checking every nut in the p-trap because it could be any one of them. I have tried watching it while it runs, but it doesn't show up. I think I will just replace the compression nut and clip the line back a bit and try again. If that doesn't fix it, probably a new gauge?

You may have to cut a 3/8" or so off the end of the tube. Before you put your new compression fitting on. Someone may have really reefed on it in the past and distorted the tube. Did that to myself many moons ago.
