Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
As I get closer to making this pile of parts look like a truck, I need to get a rear tank going. Filling through the bed seems easiest to manage, but there are many cool options. Post your favorites below!

I dig the magnets ^^^
Here's my panel access to under floor filler neck. PS: Don't worry folks; the filler neck is not inside the cargo area, just the door to access it below the floor.

We went with a fairly simple filler.

The '50 pickup I did. The other plate is a battery access cover.

On my 1940 Ford. Both stainless inserts are flush with top of wood.

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
Since my suburban gas tank's fill neck bends to the right of my rear truck fender, I bought a Harley Davidson gas cap and mounted it to the right rear fender. It mounts flush, pushes in and screws tight.

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
I like how you did the wood on top of the side bed supports, how did you secure the wood to the bed support?

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
Fords are different from Chevies, at least in 1940 they are. Plus it's back halfed. There's a 1"x1/8" steel frame work under the wood. Just pre drilled holes in the supports and screwed the wood down from below. I didn't want any bolt heads showing above.

Although I'm mostly a Chevy guy I really like the looks of the 1940/41 Ford pick ups

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
I went around the backside of the fender. I’d recommend moving it up an inch or two to make the fuel angle a little steeper. This is a slow fill.

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
I've been getting questions about how I have my filler neck inside the cargo area. Again, THE FILLER NECK IS NOT INSIDE THE CAB - ONLY THE ACCESS DOOR! The filler neck is below the floor, the cap is sealed and the tank vented into a wheelwell. While I may look like I huff gas fumes all day, I assure you I don't.

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
ran from dallas to nashville, with a guy that had this. he hated it, had to unload 80% of his truck each time he fueled. he had a bbc that sucked gas to boot, he fueled 3x to my one tank

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
hey ogre, did you use the stock spare tire carrier mounts or custom fab a new one. wondering the diameter of the tire you use as well. looks good. my spare tire mount is long gone but will fab something if I can't find a good used one. may not work with my box anyway. my tires will be 235/60r17, so 28.1" tall. hope the spare fits without hitting the cab.
I always thought your truck was a cool design, a truck with a trunk. cool. |

You could split the board at one of the cross-sills. You would have to do the whole bed length. |

Re: Let's see your favorite rear fuel tank filler options
that bed filler on the green truck looks really showy, great for a low use unit I guess. very tiddly looking. my truck will be a daily driver if I ever get it done before I have to surrender my lic, haha. I plan to use the box for stuff so the fender mounted gas door is a must for me. besides, we get snow up here and it is one more way to get water in the tank when filling. sure looks good though.
