Gas Smell + Venting/Filtering Options: Charcoal Canister?

I have completed a 5.3 Vortec LS swap and have a potent gas smell that is present when the truck is parked in the garage. I have installed a tank and an LS line kit from Tanks Inc that has a vent line to a rollover valve. I am planning on using a non-vented gas cap because of this, but was wondering if anyone has added a charcoal canister to their system (without tying it into the CPU?) If so, does this help? Are their other considerations or dangers to doing this? Thanks in advance! Steve

the tank isn't pressurized, only the fuel lines. my guess is vapor is "seeping" thru the walls of the rubber lines. i replaced all "box store" rubber fuel line with Earl's VaporGuard line and have had no issues since.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping that the Press Lock LS line kit that came from Tanks Inc wasn't the same line as the box store lines but seems I may need to replace it wit something like Earls.

It looks like that kit utilizes rubber hose (from Russell). Fuel permeating the hose is likely the source of the odor. I recommend moving to a PTFE-lined hose, like Russell PowerFlex.

I had that situation in my other car. A sealed gas cap and a cheap charcoal canister and the smell has never comeback.

I wanted to revive this thread as I am wanting to run a canister. All my lines are PTFE and I have an LS3 swapped. I have not ran the truck yet, but it will sit in my shop with my gym so I don’t want any smell. I was wondering if I ran a charcoal canister should I have it attached to the intake somewhere to evacuate it? If yes, can it be done with a simple vacuum while it is running? Can it cause any fuel issues? I don’t want to mess with a solenoid either as I don’t believe my Holley ECU can control it. I have seen others say yes, but I wanted to see if anyone had this setup with good results.

I am running an 87 efi tank in my 72 K5, 5.3 swap and I used a charcoal canister from a late 90's Tahoe and just ran my tank vent line into the fitting marked "tank" I believe. It seems to work fine for me. My fuel cap is sealed.
