One last unrelated pic. I'd mentioned that I had just finished pulling and reinstalling the engine before doing it for this project. That instance was because the engine oil pan was only 3/8" above the Danforth crossmember so no way to remove the oil pan without pulling or at least lifting the engine. I was going to leave it but knew it was gonna bite me one day.
So I cut the center section out of the crossmember, welded plates on either end of it, then welded matching plates onto the suspension members. Bored the plates on each end for 4 bolts and welded the nuts onto the suspension plates. Suspension plates also serve as the mounting brackets for the rack and pinion. Now if the oil pan has to be removed, I can just unbolt the center section of the crossmember and access the pan.

Looks good.
I'd have done much the same thing with the edge of the hole, probably not necessary, but an ounce of prevention etc. |
