So, if that gauge isn't lying, I'd guess it's not holding pressure
IDK what the exact boiling point would be, but should be north of 240. Could be the cap lets go too soon and then it'd boil immediately at the lowered pressure(of course it could prolly be a dozen other failure scenarios too)

Seems like a pressure test might illuminate/eliminate some things

Great! That plus your 2747 heavy-duty clutch should be all you need for those 2 items.

Are you running a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water? Also, do you have a coolant recovery tank (with a cap for a closed system)? That should help, since it lets you keep the radiator completely full at all times, which should improve cooling a bit.

You overheated but guage only showed 220? Bet its your radiator cap. You should be able to get to 240 or even higher before things start boiling.
