Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I put Enhanced Antique plates on this. I can drive April to Oct and then only to shows from Oct to April. $10 more than just April to Oct. So it is "on the road" and as any of you know who have spent years putting one back together, NOW is when the real work begins, getting all the details correct. I have already had an alternator fail (new no miles) and just yesterday my clutch slave cylinder failed and I coasted into the hardware store parking lot (new with no miles). It was good that I kept my "test" miles close to the garage because I had to walk back and get tools then grabbed the Toyota to run and get the new slave cyl. Took about 2 hours BUT it didn't rain so all good.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Did this a couple days ago. '68 C10, all original, long bed. 61k miles, just replaced the rear brake shoes last year. Think this will be the year the old farm truck gets conditioned air.... was thinking under dash unit, not sure yet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Changed the alternator belt (11A1345)... 5 min job. Checked-out the alternator and water pump to make sure they sounded OK. And "while I was in there", I painted the fan pulley cause it was flaked and ugly.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I'm partial to original paint and have elected to keep our truck white on light red 544. One bedside and a couple other spots were touched up by the original owner before we bought it in 1987. Being it's mostly oem and it took the paint 55 years to look like this I'm also liking the patina. Has anyone used any patina clear products successfully? (i.e. Poppy's Patina)

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Thank You! Picked up in Redding back in 87 used sparingly driving to work, firewood and hunting. Always a beast (350 with power nothing, 205 and 465 all orig with 120k).
I've always wanted to restore, but kind of liking the work truck vibe. The post above about the comet paint treatment made think/realize I've washed/polished out many times and the paint needs something to top it off if it's going to last much longer. PS anyone know what rims I have there? I believe they may be square body jimmy. A guy offered them to me as he said he didn't like the look of the white spokes that came with the truck. I'd like to find oem rims and caps. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I agree, I definitely wouldn’t paint that either. A buff and wax would look great.
I think those are aftermarket “wagon wheels” but there may be a more technical name for them. PS - I bought my 68 in Redding too…

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Put 'nother transmission shift shaft selector seal in. Man, I can type that easier than saying it. I hope I got it stopped. If not, I'm gonna have to drop a couple bones at the transmission shop. Reminds me of the time back in the '70s when a farmer's John Deere tractor had the PTO fail. 8 hours labor and a dime for the cotter pin.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
My 68 developed a miss and it ended up being a cracked distributor cap so I changed it and the points . So out came my high tech distributor adjusting tool. Most youngsters won’t even have a clue to what it is .
