1 3/4 header for lowered truck
Working in a 383 swap in my 70 gmc. It had a set of think flowtek headers on it and looking for a new set as this 383 as I need something that can flow better. Right now it has a 2.5 drop spindle but I plan on bringing it a title lower as I plan on doing qa1 but nothing crazy low.
I am trying to find a 1 3/4 primary that will work. My knee jerk was a set of hooker super competition but the truck model I’m afraid is going to hang too far below the frame. I was looking at the ultimate header for a Camaro but is only 1 5/8 and I need 1 3/4. Looking for any suggestions. I do have an automatic (right now it’s a th350 but have a 4l80 I plan on swapping to eventually) and a smaller pmrg smaller starter. Last edited by chappys4life; 02-09-2026 at 03:19 PM. |

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
Chevelle mid length headers in your favorite flavor. Might interfere with stock shift linkage, YMMV. I had to rework mine. Also, stock trans xmember will not work with these headers. The upside is they allow you to tuck the exhaust between the frame rails. There are several threads on here about tucking the exhaust, just use the search bar.

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
I was afraid of that. I ditched the factory shifter for a lokar. Also I ordered a tinworks transmission crossmember to help with routing.
Anyone running Dougs D369 or Hooker 2116? Looking for a solid set of headers. Last edited by chappys4life; 02-09-2026 at 03:20 PM. |

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
Might want to look at Doug's Headers, which is a Pertronix company. I bought a pair for my 69 C10, and they sat quite high. In fact they terminated right in front of the trans crossmember, I didn't want to modify the crossmember or use tight bends, so ended up using a pair of stainless 3/4 length 1-5/8" Hedmans on my mild 350.
You could always use 3/4 length headers, which will work great for a street truck. But there are guys that know a lot more about that than me!

3/4-length/mid-length sbc headers should be available in 1.75" diameter primary pipe size & offer the ground clearance lowered trucks need..... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/p...model/chevelle

I did attach a picture of the Hookers on a big block c10 and you can see they are pretty tucked. I would be on frame if hitting the headers Last edited by chappys4life; 02-10-2026 at 11:47 AM. |

However, I live only 40 miles from their Texas warehouse, so can just drive there. That also lets me check out their Outlet Center, where they sell returns and scratch & dent items.

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
You might want to look at Sanderson also, a lot of guys sing their praises on the stainless 3/4 headers.

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
I ended up buying the D369-SS today. I was going to wait until I got the tinworks transmission crossmember in but saw I could do the 80 off on summit and just seemed like a solid deal. Will test fitment hopefully this weekend. Depends on how much of a nightmare the tinworks cross member swap is. Wish I had done it when I had the motoro and trans out.

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
Good to know thank you. The Dougs D369-SS should be arriving today. I might pull the headers I have now and see if I can test fit them before I do the tinworks crossmember install just to see fitment. The tinworks arrives tomorrow so a busy weekend for sure.

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
Use Blue painters tape anywhere there might be possible contact issues to avoid scratches.

Re: 1 3/4 header for lowered truck
Got the headers in and wow its tight. Had to bend my cooler lines, move a brake cable, and take out the starter but its in.
New issue is the headers sit lower than the tinworks crossmember. So I either have to cut the transmission crossmember or get a different one. Was going to get the same headers for my 79 suburban but think I will try the clippsters on it and might try and use the tinworks on it. |
