First truck build '49 3100

curious what you used for interior paint, looks good.
tempest67, nice job on making the roll pan look like was there fading like the rest of the area around it. curious if you clear it to keep it from chalking

Just used Rustoleum (Tremco for us Canadians) and the misting of the black and red oxide spray paint gave it a nice flat sheen. No clear coat was used.

Thank you! Interior paint is PPG Omni base coat/clear coat. I chose GM India Ivory because I wanted a rich cream color without it being too white or too yellow. I'm really happy with the color. The gray on the dash parts is GM Storm Gray from Dupli-Color. I figured it wasn't worth having paint mixed up for those small parts if I could make a rattle can look good. I put 2 coats of color and 3 coats of clear on the gray and I'm happy with how it turned out.

Well in the last few weekends, I managed to get the rear glass in and the windshield. I ended up hiring someone to do the windshield as I was struggling with it having my wife help me out and I figured paying someone who knows what they're doing is cheaper than a divorce haha...... So they came out and in 30 minutes it was in the truck. He told me what I was trying to do would never have worked. I was trying to install the gasket first and then put the glass panels in rather than putting the gasket on the glass while it's out of the truck and then put the whole assembly in.
I mounted the steering column and got the cab back on the frame and mounted and bled the brakes so now I'm mounting my doors so I can start wiring and continue the interior.

I got my wheels delivered so I could paint them. I went with US Wheel series 51 steel smoothies in 18". I got them painted this weekend the same color as the interior and I'll run the factory hubcaps on them. Right now I'm working on getting the steering shaft set up connected and then I'm going to start bolting the sheet metal all back on and start on wiring. This should be about the end of the automotive painting to do. Anything else should just be rattle can stuff so I can take down my redneck paint booth and get my shop back for assembly.

Question for everyone.... Is there a way to align or adjust the doors so that they close a little bit nicer using the factory hardware? I chose not to convert it to the bear claw style latch because I wanted to keep it as original as possible even if it doesn't work quite as well. The fronts seem to sit relatively nice at the gap but the rear of the door just doesn't close tight enough. If anyone has any tips or tricks I'm all ears..... if this is just "how they are" then okay. The truck had been taken apart for several years before I bought it so I'm kind of fighting trying to figure out how everything goes back together and what hardware is needed. I have several coffee cans full of nuts / bolts / screws...... so that's fun.

Lots of trial and error on my truck. It looks like you've got the front fitting quite well. That's the hard part. The back is mostly controlled by fiddling with the striker. Mine's a '53 so the mechanism might be different than yours, but my striker has adjustability up/down and side/side. A little bit makes a big difference. You will also need to do it again if you add weatherstripping around the doors.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try messing with them this weekend and see if I can get them to close a little tighter. I realize that this style of latch isn't the greatest but if I can get them to close a bit better I'll be happy.
