Thanks! The thing to remember is that almost everything I know about these trucks I learned on here, from other people that shared their knowledge. Keep reading and one day you will be helping other people, more than you think.

I developed an assembly information kit for restoring my truck from nuts and bolts. It's written in Assy. order, short & simple, packed with all OEM hardware ID; castings; part ID; 100s of part numbers; wiring simple - Resource, and trivial too.

Much info. applies to all 67-72 GM, A/C vehicles, esp. trucks W/O saying. Full search ability, including to 700+ images of illus., parts, charts, Assy., points of interest, cab, bed, & front clip cart plans- Specials and cores were serviced out and R excluded e.g. front/rear glass, body/paint, engine core, rebuilt hinges, steering box, trans, etc.

The project was in-line with long former professions developing process, policy, specs, demo, written for novices, admin., policy, engineers, development, systems & test - Public & govt 2, gross. Sell soft copy cheaply, PM if interested.

Re: LockDoc's "Low Budget", "Low Maintenance" Project Thread

You got the better cab in my opinion, but I’m a little bias.

Wow, I paid something like 450 for just balancing the shaft and carrier bearing. Apparently, I was ripped but still, you got a smoking deal.

Pretty sure my 71 has the same fuel tank. Single-line sender too, the 72 would have come with a return for a 400TH, for some reason.

Wait man, what happened to the 71 cab? looks more like a 67 BBC dually☺ Nice work fixing stuff, wish I was as handy. What a BA truck. Great pic post 501 Doc.

Pretty sure my 71 was ordered with the “Real” truck mirrors. Mine were RPO DF2 anyway. Sharp sharp BA truck Leon.

Thanks for the compliments.

There are a lot of different years of parts on this truck as you saw in post #501.

I about fell over when the drive line shop forman told me what the bill was for the driveshaft. I even told him that it sounded pretty cheap..... He just smiled.

I Posted pictures of these in the 67-72 forum but I wanted to add it in my build thread also. A friend of mine here on the board had his son-in-law make them for me. There are a few styles of these on Ebay but they weren't exactly what I wanted. THESE are exactly what I wanted, and they are milled out of aluminum.

On another note the Black Dually is under the weather right now. All indications point to the crank sensor. I ordered one today along with the super sticky double face tape for the new fender badges. Get Ready for Spring!!!!..

Well I finally got the fender badges installed.

I also had to replace the crank sensor on the back of the block. Not easy to get to, but I got it out without breaking it off inside the hole, so I consider myself lucky.... As Willie would say "On The Road Again"! And just in time for Spring driving.

I finally got a couple of things finished up on the Dually Project that I have been working on for a couple of months off and on.

One of them was the cruise control, and the other was the temperature gauge that wasn't reading correctly.

The problem with the cruise was the switch was bad. I replaced the switch and it now works great!

The temperature sender on the 8.1 is a 3 wire sender and the Green wire was for the instrument panel gauge. (first picture) The stock '71 temperature gauge was reading really low, just above the cold line, when HPTuners said that the actual temperature was 195º. (second picture) I solved that problem by adding a 150 OHM Resistor - Colors: Brown-Green-Brown-Gold, between the Negative side of the gauge and the ground post at the bottom. (third Picture) That made the gauge read just above the center line @ 195º (fourth picture)

Here is a good resistor color calculator:

https://resistorcolorcodecalc.com/

I was really glad to get these two things finished up.
.
Thanks for this solution, I had the same issue with my 6.0. The 3 wire F-body LS sensor must use the same resistance range as the 8.1.
I had played around with various values for the stock 90ohm position and it didn't give great results.
Your trick got the needle reading nicely, straight up at 200ish and the swing isn't as dramatic as it was when changing the other resistance value.

Thanks..... I'm always willing to share what I have learned on here in years past and what I have learned from building a few of these trucks. It's always good to keep the information flowing.

If anyone is wondering what MS66 is referring to in the first quote in his post above, it is the link to adjusting the GM steering boxes. I will post it again in this post....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRO1ne-SkZo

Good Video. I did not remove my steering box to adjust it but I did jack my truck up until the front wheels were off the ground.
Having a spanner wrench to make the upper adjustment makes it a lot easier.
