Suburban Spare Tire Cover - WTB or Info needed

Hello,

I am looking for info or pictures or to buy a factory spare tire cover for my 67-72 Suburbans. If someone has a factory original, even if it is totally wrecked, I'd be happy to buy it.

If anyone has any insight as to whether or not this cover actually made it into production, or what colors they came in, or what materials were used that would be appreciated also.

If all you have is a picture of what you believe is a factory original cover I'd be glad to get that from you as well. And if it is easier to email or text that please let me know.

The only solid info I have on it is from the Factory Assembly Instruction Manual.

Depending on the quality of info, photos, or an actual factory cover I should be able to get some made for myself and others. That is the ultimate goal.

Thanks,
Scot

Re: Suburban Spare Tire Cover - WTB or Info needed

I have one that not sure if I want to part with. It was in a 72 I have sitting here. It is actually a 2 pc cover. I thought I had a picture of it while it was still in the burb but can't seem to locate it. here are a couple of pictures I just took.

The cover is not a two piece cover. I believe that piece you have is from the passenger side interior side panel. Here is the photo of my panel. That piece was added by factory to cover a small piece of the exposed metal. Also rounded the match tire

Amazing! Thank you for the photos and info!
That is great that it has a part number on it! I wonder if that is a GM part number?
It appears to be stock with no screw hole or tab at the top which is different than in the assembly manual. Interesting that the flap is white/parchment like the interior and the tire cover is black. It sounds like Blazers came with black tire covers only, I wonder if that is also mainly the case for Suburbans.

Very much appreciated!
I will text you for those pictures.

It also appears your tire cover has felt backing similar to the Blazers.
As I look closer at the Factory assembly manual, it appears there were two different versions possibly. Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 with no top tab being for 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton with certain RPO codes. And Type 2 with the top tab for 3/4 ton and different RPO codes. Also the part that wraps around the back of the tire seems to be different between the two types, although your cover seems to have a slightly different back wrap that pictured in Type 1. Interesting.

I owned two original blazer spare tire covers and they are different. They cover the whole front face of the tire since it is fully exposed. on the suburbans it only covers half the tire since the other half is sunken into the well..

Re: Suburban Spare Tire Cover - WTB or Info needed

Thank you for all the photos and info. Please keep it coming!

So far it seems safe to say that the boomerang flap piece is likely always the same color as the inner cargo panels.

It would be good to keep getting more pictures to determine if the factory spare tire covers are always black and always have a felt backing and a part number stamped on the inside and if all other covers are just quality good looking individual reproductions.

Thanks

Yes sir you are correct. I kept the panel pc with the cover to remind me where it came from. Have a habit of forgetting things nowadays.

Mine does not have the same look as Tmends on the back side. I also noticed today the front side is not an exact match the the flap pc. (different grain) so I would say the cover may not be a noriginal example.
