Question Edelbrock ?

A friend let me try his Edelbrock 1407 carb in place of the Q-Jet.The truck starts, idles and accelerats much smoother than the Q-Jet. It does have a slight bog at hard acceleration but it may be running a little lean. What It doen't have is the same BHAAAWAAA or the kick in the pants that the Q-Jet had when the secondaries opened.
I feel a 750 cfm may be a little large for a motor that is as mildly built as mine ( see sig) but should I expect more from the Edelbrock?

I suspect that the secondaries may not be opening. Is there a procedure for checking to see that they are functioning without staring in to the carb at full throttle?

thanks in advance
