Startin up

In cold weather my truck likes to act like a new date that I don't understand. Usually I crank on it for about 5 sec two times then pull the choke and she will bust off, well thats most of the time. Recently I can crank on it with no start, but some times when I turn back the key to run and the engine is still rollin fast it will start. It's like the starter is pulling all of the juice and not leaving enough for the HEI to hit a good spark. Any help on this is appreciated. This has happened before over the years. Thanks Steve
