Only an 85mph speedometer, eh? Kinda makes me happy my '79 goes to 100 or 110 (don't remember now, too cold to go out), just had it at 95 for a few miles tonight before snow hits (which is really like 105, cause of my huge rear tires), loved it!

now about that valve hitting thing, I'm thinking when yer cam split in two the rea half fell behind so some of the valves were open when they should be closed, so piston hit them - still a valvetrain issue tho, not bottom-end related. Just replace the short block, complete 350s can be had for under $500 all day long, just find one in good condition and swap whatever performance parts you can over to it and drop it in.

Also, what are those roller-tip rockers from?
