'55 Chevy 2nd fender repair question

I am beginning work on my 55 2nd series truck. I have a question for you experienced restorers. One of my fenders is pretty badly rusted on the lower tip. I know that I can replace the outer skin pretty easily, but what about the inner support where the bolts screw in? My idea is to take some of the retained nuts on pieces of sheet metal from my donor Trans Am, and rebuilding the fender tip. Is there a better way?

Jeff

Thanks in advance!! I have learned a lot from you guys already, and will need a lot more advice before I'm done.

Here are some picture of my project.
