Filling trim holes around rear taillights

I did search several different searches but found no answers

I am planning on biting the bullet and getting Musclerod's rear lights/bezels. This will require me to fill in the holes for the factory trim. I am having help on the bodywork and want to make sure we do it right. Will it be okay to simply fill the holes with body filler or is there a better way to do it? Thanks!!!
