olds diesel swap

Ok guys, I'll probably catch a lot of flak for this but I have a '78 c10 and I live in California so I have to smog it. I recently had a 1979 chevy with a goodwrench 350 diesel offered to me for next to nothing. I'd like to swap this into my 78 c10 temporarily to get it re-registered as a diesel then pull it out and put my 396 bbc into it so I won't have to worry about smog. Does anyone know what would be involved in the swap? I'm hoping I won't have to make any permanent modifications, and I'm not worried about time as I'm off work for a few weeks. Any input would be great.
