Need help with 62 1/2 ton 4x4 burb brakes

Hey everyone,
I just got a 62 with a 350 engine. Running great but stopping is horrible. Using all my leg strength to get it to stop. Very hard brakes and I feel like Fred Flintstone. Brakes were recently rebuilt but something is off. Took it to shop and they said everything seems good but I may need new drums and they need to double check the fit on the pads. I even considered going from drums to disc but since it is 4x4 4spd the parts are not really out there. Even Brothers could not help. They suggested looking into some NAPCO stuff online which is not in my budget. I am looking for either a place to get some new drums, pads and master cylinder or a conversion suggestion that won't kill my pocket.
Thanks so much!
AJ
