bellhousing installation

i'm having trouble putting the bellhousing back on the crossmember support. if i get one hole lined up then the other one isn't lined up. plus i already loosened the motor mounts so that i could jack up the engine a little bit in order for the bolt holes to match up on the engine... i think maybe i should have put the bellhousing on the crossmember first, then lifted the engine a little bit and did that part. i'm just kind of thinking out loud hoping that someone could help me out a little, so if anyone has done this before or seen similar problems please respond, thanks
