Trailing arm mount location

We are installing a 9" ford in my sons 66 at the moment and wanted ideas from some of you experienced guys on the TA mount. Before I weld the perch's on the rear axle now would be a great time to remove the front mounts and raise them if it is worth the effort. We have a stock LQ4/4L60 combo with 255/55/18 tires and it just shreds them now. Will raising the TA mount help with traction?
