Is the NSS wire absolutely necessary

Buttoning up some loose ends and was wondering if this wire is necessary for the engine to run. Motor/computer are 2004 LQ9 dbw, trans is a 2005 4L80, harness is a BP Automotive Premium harness, and the truck is an '86. The switch on the bottom of the column only has the plug for the back up lights. The truck was originally a 3 speed on the column, so I believe it had a switch on the clutch pedal that only allowed it to start if the pedal was pressed down.
