Re: How many miles are on your ride?

My trucks body has 152k on it. The engine has 812 miles (crate) and the tranny has about 850. I can't wait for my rear end to go and give me an excuse to upgrade gears!

Re: How many miles are on your ride?

The last owner told me he knew it had turned over at least once, and I turned it over again. Based on that 240K or more. On the third engine that I know of. The worn out 305 I replaced was a crate engine.

Ya? I''ll eventually be going from a 2.73 to the 3.73. Think I'll notice a significant increase? I can't even break the tires loose from a stop right now

yeah i went from 2.73 also, but i could turn the tire over from a dead stop with the 305. But you will notice a big difference.

Im not sure what the exact mileage is on mine but im guessing it is around 600,ooo no joke my 80 lwb had 200+thousand when igot it in 2000 since then i have rolled it ove 2 almost 3 times befor the motor went she is a good strong truck i have ran across the scales at 7,842lbs back when i was haulin scrap metal. The ole girl has been nothing but reliable i have only had to put 1 rear end in her 1 front lip from where lil bro wrecked her 2 radios a starter and got knows how many tires filters and oil changes. and believe me i didnt babby her i did everthing from racing down back roads to hauling scrap metal and junk vehicle to pulling trees on the farm i mean you name it

Re: How many miles are on your ride?

My 86 Chevy pickup with a 305 is far and away the longest lasting and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I got it for a work truck in 1994 when it had 121,000 miles on it. During the first couple of years I had to make a few minor repairs like a water pump and alternator but nothing major. What really impressed me was from 200,000 to 300,000 miles it never broke down or required any repairs at all. Not even a brake job!

In 2002 it had 340,000 miles on it. Although it never burned oil it was leaking oil, had a pin hole in the radiator, and the paint was pealing. I bought another truck and non-opped the 86. I just drove it around on the farm for a couple of years.

Last year my son turned 16 and I figured the ‘86 would be a good first vehicle for him. We pulled out the old 305 and just like the engine in Rich69RS/SS truck it was in remarkably good shape inside. There was almost no wear on the cylinders. We freshened up the 305 up with new rings and bearings, a valve job, and a new cam and lifters, and a new timing chain.

It now has 349,000 miles on it and it just keeps on going. It’s like the Energizer Bunny.

Here is a recent photograph of how it looks today:
