Re: My new toy !!!

I think it would be cool to stick another small block in it for now and drive it as it sits untill you fix the 302.

Re: My new toy !!!

I just can't believe that somebody would let a car like that sit and deteriorate over a 32 year period, and not do anything with it. I'm glad to see that you rescued it! I have always wanted a 69 Camaro Z28. Keep us posted on the progress on it! I'd stick a 350 in it and drive it while I was rebuilding the 302. Great score! ...Joe

You would just have to meet the PO Let me just tell you, she lived in a shack that leaned to one side, was covered in tar paper, had no power, running water, or bathroom, not even an outhouse !!!
She was mentally sound, just really mean & wanted to be alone (shot at me once)

I dunno if I'll drive it while I fix it, as it's worth so much
But I am thinking about building a non DZ 302 (I have most of the parts to build one) to put in it & save the original DZ engine

I have a good 350 block & 283 crank, prolly get some vortec heads & something like 9.5:1 to 11:1 pistons
It's prolly what I'll do, cuz I'd hate to blow up the DZ engine after having it rebuilt
Plus that way it'd run like a souped up Z/28

Re: My new toy !!!

when i was 17 i found a fathom green Z that had been sitting since 74. bought for 730 bucks and i ended up being the second owner. I sold it when i got married for not enough. Don't ever let that car go I would love to trade my truck for that. but i know you won't go for it. Nice find!!

Re: My new toy !!!

Very Nice Score

If it is a "DZ" motor - it would almost be worth it to put 8 sleves in the block - just make sure the shop doesn't deck the block ID numbers off

I also would suggest like about to just put a regular 350 or 327 in it to get it running until you can rebuild the original motor

The only real thing holding me back from that is, I don't have a trans for it
But I have a line on at least a case for one

If you don't find the original case, I would seriously consider getting an autogear M22 supercase. They are MUCH stronger than the factory cases.

Looking at the interior pics, that poor thing was beat hard in it's short life
