Re: Grrrrrrr... cant trust anyone
that's what I think too. when I had my plugs set at .035, it was dog slow, and had really bad gas mileage. when I asked at o'reilly what the plug gap should be, they said it should be set at .060. i also looked on the internet, and most people said to set it at .045. so i set it at .045. it runs better, and has better gas mileage. next time, i am going to try it at .060, just to see if i see a difference.

Re: Grrrrrrr... cant trust anyone
The jump out from under the brakes comment leads me toward not hooking up the vacuum for the booster. Even though that should be pretty obvios?

Really it would be nice if we had guys here on the board we could trust to do work on our trucks. Not for free but just trustworthy folks from your area.
That is all. Carry on. |

Hey! I resent that! I'm a network engineer, and I'm a gearhead! J/K on the resentment.

Re: Grrrrrrr... cant trust anyone
Probably not your issue, but I replaced my vacuum advance unit on the dizzy awhile back as I replaced rotor/cap/wires/etc....it lasted 2 months and started leaking [air]. Took it back to the parts place, they replaced for free, runs beautiful now, 'cept for the oil leak.

Re: Grrrrrrr... cant trust anyone
yeah, it probably is bad plugs or something, I actually broke one of my sparkplugs without realizing it while doing a valve lash adjustment, truck ran bad and I even backed out my adjustments before finding the broken plug....

Re: Grrrrrrr... cant trust anyone
I ONLY checked your personal album to make sure you were correct.. you are.. it only took me 20 minutes to find 'em too... just trying to maintain self confirmation of my screen name.... I still do! I think I liked the truck too.. not sure though... was it green?

Re: Grrrrrrr... cant trust anyone
If you haven't solved this yet...
in a small nutshell... Re-gap the plugs to .045. Make sure firing order is correct and wires cross correctly...look under the hood for mishaps when it's dark outside...you will see arching if there's a problem. Since they gapped the plugs (wrongly) for an HEI, make sure they used the correct plugs for your HEI distributor. Look for missing/broken/un-plugged-in vacuum lines...spray carb cleaner at likely suspects when running to see if the engine changes tone. Find the mechanic and get a list of what he messed with. Get them to re-emburse your first bill for all the trouble you have gone through. That's the only way we can get these irresponsible shops off the street. This could always be a fluke, but I doubt it. just my 2 bucks... Last edited by ETsC10; 11-10-2008 at 01:33 AM. |
