Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

Thanks guys! Here are a few little details on how we mounted it.
We made a couple base plates to mount the bumper to the winch mount and added a couple gussets to hold it in place.

We had planned on one gusset on each side, but after seeing it mounted up we had to do two.

Now comes the part I was excited to see... fitting the fairlead. We mocked it up on the bench, torched out the space, and after sliding it in a couple times we got the fit we wanted.

We now needed recovery points... Like always, we played with a bit of cardboard before we decided on the design we thought would look/work best. We torched them out of some 1"x4" cold rolled and after a bit of smoothing had these...

Thanks, that really means a lot to us. Before we made the body mounts we moved the cab forward 1/2 an inch to get better fit against the bumper.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

Alright, well the bumper ended up having more flexibility in it than we wanted so we added a few gussets to the back side.

We took all the paint off the bumper, sandblasted the radiator support to get ready for the brace work on that, and trimmed the grill support fro some clearance we needed.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

I really never liked the cross bars in the radiator support so we decided to cut them out and put gussets in instead. My dad also welded up most of the seams

We wanted a stronger base the the radiator support so we reinforced the bottom channel a little bit

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

With all this done, it was time for body mounts...
I wanted something different since there was so much space to fill

We added the top plate then pulled it off to weld it up and add the back plates

Then we made some reinforcing washers for the spring hangers and my dad welded them on

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

The fabrication is awesome!! You have some excellent ideas and craftsmanship to go with it.

Can you tell me what kind of fitment you have were the exhaust pipes meet the collectors?

And btw, are you going to fill all the holes in that bumper with some running lights?
