Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Hey Cap'n...are you pretty familiar with swapping in these hydroboost units? I picked up a brand new one for cheap awhile ago and I am not sure what I will use it on. I will definitely pick up one of your set-ups when I get to that point.

I'm more concerned about the hoses and fittings than actually mounting the component. Ive also seen two Astro vans at the salvage yard...I should go rob the hoses, huh?

I haven't done one myself yet, but I have looked at several. They're really not that hard to plumb. There are a few places that sell either ready made SS braided hose sets, or you can piece your own together. I'll make sure you find what you need to complete your install.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Thanx toms84ss and Cap'n fab. Ive seen the kits for plumbing and thought they were rather pricey. I will continue to keep my eyes open and will utilize your services when it comes up.

I have a BBC serp set-up with the correct pwr steering pump for hydroboost. I think this is what I'll be putting in the 'burb eventually.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Seriously considering one of the Hydroboost set-ups. Any pics of one mounted. Looks like it would clear up alot of room with the BBC in my 72. Will our lines from the prop valve tie in to the prop valve on the new valve? Have to change the length of the rod from the pedal to the booster? Basically just need to know what else is needed to make this work. Thanks man.

Unfortunately Josh I don't have any installed pics, but yes it does open up the engine compartment some, especially when combined with my booster bracket. That gets everything closer to the firewall. Some guys even flip the hydroboosters upside down from the factory position to move the accumilator (?) to the outside. You probably wouldn't even have to break open a brake line to convert to hydroboost, since you should be able to use your current master cylinder providing it is a power master. Yes you will have to graft the hydroboost pushrod to the original one for your truck. If you want to give this a try let me know and I'll work with you to make sure the install goes smoothly.

Here’s some bling with a purpose!
PSC makes a hydroboost reservoir that filters and “calms” the fluid by settling out the aeration. JEGS/Summit makes a chrome remote pump reservoir with an AN12 (if I recall correctly?) return fitting.
What you see on that PSC can right now are braided - covered rubber hose with barbed fittings and hose clamp covers. I will be replacing them with “real” PTFE hose and hose ends.
Every fitting on my steering box, pump, and hydroboost is 45* flare fittings, so it’s just a matter of using adapters (from JEGS) to convert them to AN.
I’m hoping it will look “pro” when I get it all assembled

Well not really NEEDED, but I want to hear supercharger whine, not power steering pump whine. 😂

Air in the ps pump as a result of agitation from the fluid returning directly to the pump is what causes the whining.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Payment received. Do you need a booster bracket to mount this to the firewall correctly?

I have your bracket already so I believe that all I need is the plate for the hydro boost.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates

Yes that is correct. I just wasn't sure if you already had one of my booster brackets.
