Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

Thanks agian for the complements.

Keep on Trucking

We redrilled the crossmember holes for the engine x member and the t-case x member 7/8" forward and modified the shift linkage to get clearance. Still minimal firewall "fabrication".
Still looks factory like with the angled clutch linkage plate. (black cover).
The first Pic is of us setting the engine in place or as close as possible to see what had to be fabbed up to make it work.

Looks good. Do you have a body lift in it?

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

well yesterday was raceday at a buddies house were there are quad and truck races. Its a 500 ft marked track.
My goal was to be up in the top contenders. Well I started out with putting on a set of tires and wheels my dad had on his 99 silverado. So I swaped out my ATs for some Cooper STTs. Then after adjusting the timming some more we thought we had it dialed in. Running 35 total timming and 93octane with vac. advance hooked up. Since I was running low on fuel. I said why not grab some 110. Just for insurance. So I am running like 90% 110, 10% 93.

Turns out the truck still seems to hesitate. I am like wtf.
I get to the track and start running it in what I thought was 4lo acctually 2hi. So I just spun like crazy didn't get out of the hole for like 20 seconds and 5k+ rpms.
Then I am like ok lets try 4 hi, nope not enough pull and the motor is still lagging with this pop right before boost comes on. So I am really sucking it up. Well I go throught and try a number of diffrent of combinations still slow out of the line. Lots of lag between inital take off and boost.
Even when power braking up to 1,200 rpms. Brakes wouldnt hold anymore.

After dicking with the timming, setting it at 30 overall. Disconnecting vac advance , Taking my passengers foot and holding the t case shiffter in 4 lo and manually shifting it between 1,2,drive. I was kicking ass and winding her up to 6000 rpms.

I was running with a 2 550 hp powerstrokes with all diffrent mods, a Blue 87 chevy with nitrous.
I was pleased but disapointed that I found I have so much more to do.

No Breakage ya.

the pretty much stock th350 with a shift kit held up and so did everything else.

I really don't have any video myself at the moment but check back in a couple of weeks. I got video of before the tune ups. But not really worth posting.
i PROMISE I WILL GET U GUYS SOME VID FROM THE LAST COUPLE OF RUNS!

I found that I also should have disconnected the Detent cable to get more rpms because in Drive the tranny shifts early because as the boost comes on its only maybe 3,000 -5,000 before it shifts. In 4wd anyway because the boost creates more vacum which makes the tranny think I am letting off the throtle When I am really on the floor.

Just learned I got alot more to do

That sounds like a neat learning experience, you'll be an expert at superchargers before long.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

Truck finally is out of storage, and I have been saving up for some major improvements.

MSD Six series BTM
Rancho RSX9000 shocks
New leafs in the rear
Maybe new mufflers.

Here is my first improvement this year.
i forgot how scary fast this thing is over the winter.
Ya I need to adjust my steering box, possibly add a sway front sway bar and adding new hawk hps pads.
Hope you guys like where I mounted the MSD box, because I do.

That's a good spot, I mounted mine on the passenger floorboard as high as I could.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

Thanks CG

Well I went racing again on yesterday and my truck ran 100% better than the last time I went out racing.
The video's don't do it justice. I now it looks slow off the line with 3.08 gears but at mid track 2-3 gear the truck freaking launches. I disconnected the vac modulator line. All passes are in 4Lo on the 500 ft marked strip. All my hard work is beginning to show. The next adjustment is lighter springs in the distributor.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

Here is one from inside the cab
The blue chevy in the pic is the fastest truck there and is running 110 on a vortec 350 spraying 125 shot of nitrous. Not even the power strokes can beat it.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

With different gears you could beat it, and Have you thought about mx6s by pro comp for shocks.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

Another successful trip to silver lake sand dunes. The truck really preformed awesome. No breakage thankfully. Only mishap was the factory battery hold down did not hold on the last hill before we left. I decided to attempt a 12ft incline that the approach angle was almost at 90 degrees. Before I went I added a 110 gph fuel pump from holley and my truck ran a little rich. Next thing to do is going to be taking my truck to the a dyno for some fine tunning. I really need to invest in some 3:73s instead of 3:08s.
Trickiest part about driving on the dunes is once your tires start digging and the truck starts bouncing you have to back down or risk breaking something. At least with a stock dana 44 in the front.
4lo worked even better. I could not find a single hill that the truck avenger could not conquer. No stalls or flooding out.
I will keep u up dated.
Thanks.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

I just added a new carb to my truck and it runs excellent. I am truly impressed by Performance Carburetors stage 3 carb. Its a 1000 cfm Holley Hp series with spring loaded needles and seats, manifold referenced power valve. I was struggling to get my 670 truck avenger to preform even with hours of tinkering. Now with the bigger carb the truck gets squirrely at wot. It has terrible body bounce. I am looking at Helliwig's sway bars for 67-72 k-10. Has anyone else added this to their rig.

Here is also the forumula for calculating cfm for a forced induction motor.

(CID x RPM) ÷ 3456} x {Boost ÷ 14.7) + 1} = CFM required.

431 x 5500=2370500/3456=685.908 x( 5/14.7=.476190+1)=919.2 cfm

thanks again for all the complements.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

It has been a while since I updated my thread another year of driving and enjoying my truck. It has been the greatest season of owning this truck yet.

I did a dyno pull in May and the truck pulled excellent and was made more hp and tq than the other muscle cars on the dyno.
The one guy claimed his Cale yarburrow edition cyclone with a 429 made 450 at the crank! He only pulled 295 at the wheels. And another hot shot with a Pontiac 2 door with a 400 pontiac motor running on race fuel did a laughable 200 horse power.
This is quite the experience and I really think it cool listening to your engine accelerate while you are sitting still in your vehicle. you are so nervous but it is a rush. People gather as you are just getting up to speed.
The only horse power that matters is real Rear wheel Horse Power.
Truck has been running awesome and have been blessed as I have 4300 miles on the motor. I did change my mufflers to Flowmaster 70 series big block and they are a lot less restrictive and not any louder than the Dyno Max turbos. Truck now has 3:73's with front and rear limited slips and I have some decent video from the last 2 dirt racing events. I just got around to adjusting the transmission govenor and lightened the springs and weights. Now the truck may really stress the th350. It kicks down quickly and hods first through the power band.
Only miserable thing is I broke my truck at the sand dunes right when I got there. I first go framed out on test hill. Got pulled out and couldn't stop slid backwards into the poor guy who pulled me out. My step bumper absorbed the impact. Then I proceeded to try again the second day and bounced off a rut hidden in the sand. I broke a outer u- joint on my dana 44. So the fun was over.
Been a great year though . Also added shoulder belts a must, and led tail lights for safety.
Enjoy.

Re: 72' K-10 Bbc!

here is one of me getting owned by a built 750 hp truck not even spraying at the time. It was to cold so a lot of guys didn't have their bottles rigged with warmers.
Thats okay all the better for me

All winter I even can enjoy driving my 72' pictured bellow!
