Hey Casey your truck looks good i thought about a diesel because petrol is pricey here about 97 cents liter, diesel is about 98cents but you go longer on a liter of diesel than petrol. A diesel conversion is about $10 000 so i trhink i will give it a miss ,i might go LPG instead. Jeramy when i post a pic of my old bus you will think that your doing alright to all you other longbegs nice to see i`m`not the only one around. Has anyone seen a wild long and low if so can they show us all ,

Aussichev ,

I love them long , definitly...

I would go for LPG , this is what I choosed , no puffin' stinkin' Diesel & a lot cheaper than Gas or Fuel Oil here .

My current LPG'ed engine & tranny will go in my 1987 Burb , the 1979 long bed I have right now is FUBAR anyway .
I was thinking of building a trailer from my P.U.
You can see some pics of it in the "Post your ride" thread , page 4 & 5

I'm not surprised you have a lot of problems finding parts , I have a contact in N.Z. , the guy is also a american cars collector , he told me that american cars & trucks of the 70's were very few in that part of the world

my dad is a bodyman, so panel prep shouldnt take nearly as long.

i did see a truck today that was the lighter of the two blues on my truck. minus the silverado trim, too. going with that color would make things alot easier, as we wouldn't have to paint teh jambs or disassemble the interior.

I'm having similar feelings about my truck, I saw one in Lethbridge that was painted the same color as my interior, door jams and stuff, so I am gonna figure out the color code of my truck's blue and paint it that color, then drop it 4/6

Aussichev ,

In my country , we have to have to follow a lot of regulations about LPG installation :
- it has to be installed by a professional
- it has to pass MOT inspection yearly ( they check for leaks )
- the tank may be filled only at 80% of the original capacity , they have to be adapted with a filler valve allowing the 80 % filling.

So my tank is a 100 liters one , I can fill it with 80 liters LPG and owing I use 25 liters / 100 Km , I'm good for 300 km's...

Some guys pretend you have to start your engine on gas and switch to LPG after a few kilometers , I never did this , I always start on LPG.

These american low compression engines are perfectly designed to run on LPG , as they were designed to run on unleaded gas , you never won't have any problem with the admission or exhaust valves.

one minus point on LPG : if your pressure reducer is a too little one ( as I have ) , you will loss a 1/3 of your power.

The best option , if you can afford it , is to buy a IMCO ( US made ) installation , they have system to be put on V8 engines , allowing a 300 HP output ( but your LPG consumption will raise sky high.. )

if I was you , I would go for LPG , the initial costs of an installation might seem high ( between 1000 & 2500 US$ ) , but the refund after a while is a full benefit...

The Baron

PS : I don't know if you're an green guy , but LPG pollutes a lot less than Gas and certainly a very big lot less than Gasoil.

This what I'm telling to the morons asking me how much my beast drinks

Baron take a look at www.gasresearch.com.au they are not far from me so i will talk to them. I think that the regulations for lpg are almost the same in both our countrys. I`m just about to start yet another business doing ceramic coatings so i will put that on anything and everything plus their are a range of dry film lubricants and thermal dispersants, teflons eta. eta. to play with . I don`t think i could afford to own the Chev if it was not on gas or a diesel which raises the possibility of biodiesel or natural gas. I have heardbfrom a mate that bio. is rubbish who knows. I think that anyone in the U.S. is a bit spoilt when it comes to petrol so to any people reading from the U.S. our fuel solution maybe your next stop.Gas conversions are about $2.500 Aust. depends

Aussichev ,

I took a look at the site you mentioned , looks very good but the technology they sell is not needed for our engines.
They sell carburettors which a mix gas/LPG while others install a pressure reducer and a diffuser above the existing carb...
They speak about burned valves and pistons being holed , due to the high temp attained.

This is just B.S. , the LPG / air mixing happens within your carb , through the venturi effect , so , if your engine is at idle , there is just a little gas going into your engine and by WOT , you get the full load , depending on the maximal quantity your reducer can handle.

Those pressure reducers work with the depresion created in your admission pipe : more depression (WOT ) , more LPG...

I know some guys here in Belgium , disappointed with the pressure reducer they had and just put two of them , for more power.
They burn tires but their LPG consumption goes to 35 liters / 100 km

So , look around & compare the prices.

For newer vehicles , indeed , they have now injection systems , where the gas is coming to the injector in liquid form , getting pulverisated as in a normal petrol injector.

This all reduces the consumption , but costs a lot of $$$...

One of my friends drive a "regular" sedan , 4 cylinders 1800cc , with the new injection system , he uses 9 liters / 100 kilometers but the installation costed him 2500 US$ / EUR

my dad has a friend with a 77ish longbed stepside. in my opinion, it looks way too long and out of proportion. adding a crewcab would just make the look worse, unless of course it was lifted.
