Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
wow ive heard of the roll on paint jobs but never seen the work put in like here. mainly more on hondas and it was pretty quick (2 coats maybe then cleared and voila done). it is pretty intriguing and im considering this method since my truck is blue interior wise and wanting to change it up. cant wait for the end results to show.

UPS fairy came today, brought me an OER dash from Summit, $179. ![]() ![]() ![]() It looks very nice, the trim strip fit perfect. I did have to dig out some urethane to get the dash tabs in. It's a little floppy but I did a test fit and it's very acceptable, I'd definitely reccomend it for someone tire of their cracked dash and can't drop $500 for a GM one. LMC is bring a while box of goodies to work for me tomorrow, should be driving the truck by Sunday. |

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
Haha. The weather is supposed to be good, I'll probably roll it back out of the garage tonight and get some pics. The dasn't isn't "flimsy" persay, try to find the episode of Trucks (or Gearz, don't remember) where Stacy David puts the dash in Knucklebuster. You can see it flex as he puts in. There is some metal substructure in the dash, were the gauge area meets the other side of the dash it'll flex, also right above the gauges it dips but that'll be easy to adjust.

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
Yeah I know. I sprayed a wagon red years ago for a friend's kid and it worked great. I saw one of the car magazines use the satin black on a rat rod and it looked great and doesn't streak like the primers they had used before, plus it's cheaper, AND it seals the metal better from the elements than primer.

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
Well I have all the parts to finish
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The fit of all the reproduction is very good. The tail lights aren't as flush to the truck as OE, but it's hardly noticeable to anyone who doesn't know. I got really lucky with that grille. I found the reproduction grille last year at the junkyard off someone else's work in progress that a tree fell on. Randomly cruising yesterday I looked in the bed of an 86' and found the shattered grille complete with nice emblem. I took the emblem and drilled the holes in the repop grille...perfect fit! I missed not having the bow tie logo. |

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
When I go to our local pick-n-pull, I find more parts in the beds of trucks than I do installed on the trucks!!

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
yes good question, I just got one before deploying but havent been able to install yet. Sorry for hijacking, but what did you use to dig out where the clips go and how do they install and how did the pad fit? I looked at it and didnt want to break more clips. hijack off....

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
I'm satisfied with the fit, it was a big pain in the ass to put in though. I don't know if it was more the clips or what. I had to trim a bit from the sides, to get the clips I'm he dash I just used a sharp knife to dig some the material out.
Ill post pics later today. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
I have had one of those dashes for a few years, took about three times carefully trimming to get it to fit like I wanted. Installed it looks great, I don't worry about it cracking. 99% of folks thinks it is factory

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Neither doors have been hit with the polisher, the rest of the truck is just needing a wash and wax. Edit: Here's what the doors will look like: ![]() And for reference, here's the interior I started with lol ![]() Last edited by tylervalo; 09-22-2012 at 06:06 PM. |

Re: Attempting the "$50 paint job"
Looks great, how about some more close ups of the body. The front end looks really nice, nice classic look. I hope mine turns out 1/2 as nice.
