Not sure about the vapor nozzles, pretty sure our nozzles out here in NC don't have them, and I still have the overflow issue every time if I let it "fill up".

The OP didn't describe a clicking off problem, but instead an overflowing problem. If his is like mine, it overflows well before the pump clicks off.
California is one of the few places I've been that had those silly vapor nozzles that won't pump the gas unless it's way down into the filler and compressing the vapor shield, it acts like a switch that turns the pump on and off. The problem with those is that you have to stick the nozzle so far down into the filler that it constantly burps back the gas and shuts the pump off, a real pain in the butt to fill any of our cars out there, especially the classics with the filler in the rear behind the license plate.
What I end up doing is physically grabbing that vapor shield and pulling back the switch by hand, then I can feed the nozzle in as shallow as I wish, then it pumps just fine, but it's a pain.

We don't have those here in Arizona. If you are overflowing while filling, it sounds to me as if the vent hose is either clogged, too small for the amount of fuel you are dumping, or the vent isn't mounted high enough on the filler neck vs how far you are shoving the nozzle in.

I've been putting up with it for almost 35 years...

Re: hard to fill with gas

Is that because the tube has a larger diameter fill area or is it a larger venting tube?

Re: hard to fill with gas

I would assume this L shape we have on the filler hoses isn't exactly the greatest for high flow pumps.

Motorcycles have this little cup riser they use so pumps with vapor collecting nozzles work in the small tanks. Maybe it will work for us?

Btw gas is 4.13 here for 91ron e10. 4.22 for 91 ron pure gasoline this ethanol crap is starting to bug me. I can tell if my fuel is loaded with ethanol just by listening to it idle in gear. My tires know when it's real gas too

Re: hard to fill with gas

Same thing on my '77. It was a ***** to fill the tanks. Eventually, I learned to turn the nozzle upside-down, but even that was hit-n-miss.

Ended up swapping over to an 80+ bed with fuel doors rather than the cap mounted to the bed design. Haven't had an issue since.

That would be a very small (restricted) opening for the unleaded fuel nozzles. Back in the day we would take a hammer/chisel and knock those out of certain vehicles so we could still pump leaded fuel in (when it was available)

Since I'm stuck in the vintage era, I couldn't bear to give up my large opening leaded filler necks on my 79
