Radio Options
Hey everyone...I have a 86 C20 that i love...but no radio is starting to get old lol so i was wondering what my options are for least cutting required? i would prefer it to be like a new single DIN style but a replacement for the old shaft style wouldn't be bad, i'm just needing some music that won't empty my wallet haha so anyone know something?
Thanks! |

Re: Radio Options
I've seen that one, what would it take to put a new single DIN in the original dash opening?

Your options are cut for a DIN, or spend double for a dual shaft that fits but doesnt sound near as good. I just cut mine this week. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Radio Options
I would probably go to the scrap yard and pick up a bezel so you can keep the original uncut.

Re: Radio Options
What about wiring? I'm not very good with wiring as far as following a diagram but i can follow step by step and pictures...or is it pretty straight forward? this is my first time doing anything as far as electrical/wiring on a vehicle so i may feel dumb..

Re: Radio Options
Alright guys....Ordered a metra dash kit Tuesday...It got here today. and I've been working with this spare dash bezel I have, To see how hard the cuts are to make...So far I've gotten It to fit In nicely, but I had a problem, I broke the thin side of the bezel.

Re: Radio Options
Okay, I got my dash cut and everything fits...now I'm dealing with wiring, and I'm confused on what to do...the truck had a aftermarket Pioneer 2-Shaft radio with a digital display. And the wiring harness(not sure if it's a stock one or not) that was for it is still in. So do i need to remove that one or is there possibly a adapter for it? It's a flat white and I think it's a 10 pin.

but sometimes it can add to wireing issues if the old harness contacts are weak

Re: Radio Options
Would you happen to know where to find an adapter for it?

Re: Radio Options
thats the old pioneer harness, the stock connector will be a big black one and probably long gone. You should be able to match up your colors on the new radio harness to what's there though.

Re: Radio Options
I just put a Din in my 86. I wish I would have had the wiring codes that someone posted in your thread near the top. I would either cut the white harness off and match colors to the new din harness or if they don't match up color wise I would cut at the point where the Pioneer harness was spiced in and follow the wiring scematic supplied in the thread above.

Re: Radio Options
Crutchfield sells a kit that will make a modern single din radio fit in the hole. Once you've waller'd it out, of course.

Re: Radio Options
I attached to the ground block by the E-brake, but my radio still isnt working yet. I'm kinda thinking it might be the radio though. It's a used one from my bro's truck that quit running. So i'm not sure if it works or not. I'm gonna work on it some more but i'll be getting a new radio in a week or 2.
