preciate it. Wish I could find some older parts to vehicle list. Because most if the available distributors are old I can check what they are compatible with.

Found the regulators for $12 to $50 on Rock Auto. Same with coils (if I can't find the one I thought I had squirrelled away).

Re: Looking for a points distributor

Besides a resistance wire and a coil you'll need a coil mount, new plug wires and a solenoid on your starter that has an 'I' terminal on it.

So the plot thickens. Thanks for the tip about the starter and bracket. I'll check the wires but it seems like they should work. There was an extra wire for the coil in the box I saved.

Re: Looking for a points distributor

Wasnt the "I" terminal on the starter just for 12v at start? Then in "RUN" it was reduced by the resistor wire?
Like I said...ANY distributor from a 265-454 will work in your engine...does not matter what vehicle you remove it from.
Good luck in your adventure. I am considering changing to points in my '79 F350!...a LOT less wiring under the hood.

You're right about the 'I' terminal.
Didja' know even less wiring if you put a chevy hei conversion dizzy in your Ferd. Just a 12v supply.

Re: Looking for a points distributor

I can think of a few reasons to go points, but most of them are mooted by the fact that HEI is so user friendly. I cant remember the last time I saw a matchbook cover ( point gap measuring tool of choice for roadside repairs....kind of dating myself aren't I) a dwell meter... oie vey!!! I THINK I MAY still have one out in the shelves in my barn... come north n ill help you install a new HEI... cost around 100 bucks. and some beers while we play w our squares

Sorry to hijack...but not sure if an HEI will clear the thermostat housing?

Re: Looking for a points distributor

I do have my trusty Sears Penske dwell meter, timing light and analyzer from back when I had the Nova. I'm sure a little Windex and it will clean up and just be fine.
