Re: The wife's 1985 4X4 Silverado

So after getting her '06 Silverado Crew Cab LT with leather, moon roof, 6 disc BOSE CD, dual climate, heated seats, ect. my wife decided that she didn't want the red truck. Since then, my 10 year old son Dom, has taken an interest in it. He has about $500 of his own money invested in it. It's now a "1973" Cheyenne with a matching long bed trailer. I recently had long tube ceramic coated headers by Headman. They dump into an aluminum coated dual mandrel bent 2.5 inch exhaust that flows into Flowmaster 40's that dump just before the rear axle.

A truck can't donate its title for another truck. Unless you swapped the cab that's illegal.

Yeah what you did is illegal and if CHP's want they can check frame and cab VIN's to see if they match and if they don't then that truck is gone. Lots of people in CA were doing that back when the 75 and older law was enacted to skirt emissions laws years ago. I would HIGHLY recommend you change the title back to an 85 and deal with the emissions stuff. Remember you can always go newer and smog as a newer truck but not go backward in years. With LS swaps and the like there really is no advantage to doing the VIN swap stuff anymore. Cab vin's and frame vin's have to match with no visible signs of modification or alteration. Heck I have even seen guys cut out sections of the factory frame stampings and reweld them into the newer frame to try to fool whomever is looking. Being a former as well as coming from a law enforcement family I can say you may never get caught but it isn't worth it IMHO especially since you have a nice rig.

Sure like those '03 wheels - I've been looking for a set of them for a while. I will be looking out for you around the highways of the Central Coast. --Rob

Re: The wife's 1985 4X4 Silverado

The wheels shown were aftermarket wheels with factory 03 centers. The centers probably came off factory alloy wheels. I used my factory caps on a set of Mickey Thompson Alcoa wheels on my 03 and they worked (and looked) great. Chip.
