And an 80 series truck is pretty rare. I see a lot of the 10-50 series, but not much after that. With the air brakes I'd guess it was a nice cluster in the dash also.
it was unfortunate that I missed buying this one, the engine went into a 64 ss convert, and a few years later I "found" the truck again literally the day before it went to the scrapper..

the dash had no tach, but did have an air gauge. I grabbed the owners manual, red seat, and the data tag off the kick panel. the ss guys left the pulleys and air cleaner so I got that too. it had an interesting trans... maybe an Allison? 5 speed- it was about the size of the motor- and it used a low hump instead of the flat floor that you usually see in those big trucks.

Re: Pics of 348/409 powered trucks

Finally settled on my top end for the 348. Been talking to the machinist about doing a stroker motor. More info on that once we get closer to engine assembly. Posted pics on the build, but thought I'd share them on the 348-409 thread also. We will be running the triple deuce set up. Looking forward to building this one even more know.

Re: Pics of 348/409 powered trucks

I carted around a QB 409 for a few years and finally sold it, killer motor. Did the W's ever come in 1/2 tons from the factory.

Re: Pics of 348/409 powered trucks

Not that im aware off. I need to check on the 58-59 models. From the 63 literature I have it only shows as an option in the c, l & t 50-80 series chassis cabs / stakes and the 348 was 220hp 325torque and the 409 was 252hp and 390torque. Much different values than the car applications.

Exact look I want, minus aluminum intake and headers.
Is that a repop air cleaner?

I'm unsure if its original or a repop.....but they are reproduced.

Looking forward to seeing your build as well!!!

Just found your thread and it is nice to see another 348 / 409 here. Mine is out of a '59 Impala.

Very cool and thanks for sharing the pics.

Have you rebuilt the motor or is it stock? Interested to see what cam you went with if you've rebuilt it.

Re: Pics of 348/409 powered trucks

Haven't rebuilt it yet, but that is on the list for this winter. I have been researching what to use on the 348 / 409 site.

Re: Pics of 348/409 powered trucks

I all ways liked the look of the tripower 348 engines.
I picked up a complete running 348 4bbl engine at Carlisle years ago for $200
and before I left that day I got a complete tripower intake and carbs for another $200..
years later I bought a complete 59 impala 4door sedan parts car with the original 348 4bbl engine in it delivered to my door for $600
I bought a dated 59 tripower intake for it on ebay. and some new aluminum finned valve covers .
I still have them all today .
the 59 impala 4dr is being converted into a real 2dr convertible , using all original gm convertible parts and a 59 convertible chassis .
the first 348 w tripower is going in my 2dr 60 chevy wagon with a 4spd .
I know there not trucks but they both have 348 engines with tripower .
