since when the starter is bolted to the engine, the entire mounting face of the starter is its ground, you're just as well off to put it where it belongs. you're not going to get any noticable gains by putting it directly on the starter. not to mention making the starter easier to remove/replace in the future, and routing the cables is 100x easier. ever had to replace your positive cable? its a b!tch to say the least.
