Factory A/C Duct tip

Thought Id share this quick video I made while I was getting ready to clean up some ducts I sold with an ac and heater box on ebay. For any guys that might be getting ready to mess with their factory ac, the distribution or diverter duct often has an issue with the door. Its the most expensive duct to buy new and something you wanna look out for when buying an original. https://youtu.be/pXRU9leCD84

I wish I had seen your video before I installed my diverter duct. It was bad, but I didn't know it. It will not switch back and forth between the heater duct and dash vents. If you have one that is like this, how do you fix it? Your video does not address that.

I should have mentioned about trying to fix it as ive seen some attempts. It usually involves some type of bracing. Some guys on here have made some posts about this with pictures. I don't do this so I didn't think about addressing it. When they are broken I just toss them because while some guys are willing to fix their own, they aren't usually interested in buying one that has had the door broken. here is one thread on it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=338890

Thanks for the link, Benny, I think that fix should work. I thought my flapper seemed kind of iffy when checked it before I put it in, but it did not appear broken. So I went ahead and installed it. Well, as you might know, it did not work, would not switch to heat if dash was selected first. Now I'll have to take it back out and try to stiffen it up. I just don't want to tear back into the dash.

Re: Factory A/C Duct tip

Is it possible to straighten out the diverter box, it's not square like it should be, mine is fair to good condition, door has been fixed with what looks like J-B weld. Any way to heat it up an wedge a square piece of plywood in the opening to re align it?

Re: Factory A/C Duct tip

Thanks, I would get in big trouble if I put it in the oven anyway.

i tried wedging it into the proper shape and heating it with a heat gun. It went back to the bent shape, so I just installed it as it was, and it fit ok. The issue I had with the flapper working was not due to the shape of the duct, it had a bad hinge and I didn't know it.
