The New England states are just as bad.
Probably the maritime provinces and Quebec use plenty of salt as well.

It’s ridiculous up here, little bit of freezing rain and they’ll put a truck load of salt down per road, or if we get a tiny bit of snow there’s a truck load, on our major highways we get the road brine and even in the summer on our dirt roads we get calcium chloride to stop the dust. You can’t win, I swear they don’t even use 1/4 the weight of sand as they do salt anymore, barely ever see a truck with sand in it lol
