Re: My 62 and intro

Cool! Forgot about this one, so good thing I was subscribed I guess. Such a cool patina. Looks like you took time to clean/paint a few things as well. Keep up the good work, & I'm sure it'll be much for fun to drive when you get done.

First time I've seen this thread, I'm pretty new here. Awesome truck! I like the transformation that's taking place.

Re: My 62 and intro

thanks guys! Has anyone here used a mid 60's mustang gas tank in these trucks?? i saw one in a 55-59 truck and it bolted right to the frame rails just about with a spacer. The 60-66 are a little wider so I will have to build a frame to mount it to. I ordered one the other night from tanks inc. I was just curious if anybody else had any luck with a similar setup??

Re: My 62 and intro

I believe the frame width is not enough difference to matter. I had a rease hitch I was going to use off my '59 on my '64 and it would fit both frames. I think most all of them are 34" across the rear. I think your tank will work with the lip provided.

Re: My 62 and intro

Been back to work on the truck for the past couple weeks. got the gas tank n lines installed, brakes are all juiced up and the p. steering lines are done. Next step is to finish rewiring the engine harness my buddy started for me. If all goes well, hopefully I'll hear this thing run sometime soon!

Re: My 62 and intro

Nice truck Scott. This is the first time I've seen this build and this is a really cool truck. I have a question for you. Before the new suspension on the second frame, how did you lower the truck on the original frame and did it still have the torsion rods?

Re: My 62 and intro

I also meant to ask you what is your wheel and tire size front and back? I really like the tire size and the stance. Add the patina, the new vortech, and man you have a sweet little ride. Thanks for your help.

Re: My 62 and intro

Thanks guys!
Monte, when it was basically all orginal i just cranked the torsion bars down cut the bump stops off and put 5" drop springs in the rear with no C-notch. Drove it like that for 3 years and no problems actually rode really nice with the torsion setup. I did take one of the two washers off the bolt for the torsion bar arm and cut the other rounded washer in half to gain more ground clearance since the arms start to hang pretty low.
also it has 205/75 on 6" rim in front and 235/75 on 8" rim in the rear 15"

Thanks Scott, that sounds very creative. I haven't heard of anyone doing that before. Again, really nice truck.

Re: My 62 and intro

Well, I've been driving the truck for about a month now and love it. It Still looks like the same old junker on the outside but drives all together different. It's done for now although eventually i want to put a ford 9" w posi under it and a under dash A/C Heater unit. Sounds like a winter project to me! for now i want to enjoy it some before the snow blows. here's a couple pix...

Re: My 62 and intro

Nice job! Sounds like a good plan as well. Just enjoy it for a little bit while the weather is still good, then you can do your other mods when Winter rolls around.

Re: My 62 and intro

If you have a 12 bolt rear it Has bigger bearings than ford 9. Plus it will be a Chevy bolt pattern.

Re: My 62 and intro

Thanks,
Gas tank fits pretty good. I made a frame out of 1x1 box tube that drops out with 4 bolts just in case i ever need to get to the fuel pump or something

Re: My 62 and intro

can you post a close up picture of how you mounted the frame for the tank?
