Re: Welding question
On the subject of reinforcing that section; wouldn't it make sense to take the piece that was cut out, flip it & use to box that area?

Re: Welding question
I assume your talking about the frame....
when I did my C30 that's the way I did it On the IH I did a fish plate on the outside and a small piece of old frame on the inside across the bottom of the frame rail You can see how I did it starting at post 112-114...... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=750501&page=5

Re: Welding question
That looks great Mongo! I was referring to using the entire section that was removed and just flipping it around to box it but I like what you did.

Re: Welding question
The Lincoln did the trick! Everything went together pretty good. I used the section that was cut out to box the area for additional strength.

Re: Welding question
Just thinking about it a good number of the older brigade here can remember when you were in tall cotton if you had a 225 Lincoln (red tombstone one not the brown one) in your home garage and a torch with a welding tip to do the sheet metal welding.
Flux core wire feed is pretty much on the same line as stick welding except you don't have to change sticks every minute or so. The best thing about it is that you can weld in the wind outside if you need to and if you are fabbing or repairing something that needs to be strong but doesn't need to be show quality it works pretty good. I wonder how many guys on here have never had a chipping hammer in their hand to chip the flux residue away from the welds that were done with a stick welder. Some of the younger guys go into as much a panic when you say stick welder as when you say flux core.
