In my case they are missing but I have used a snake camera and spied the sheet metal screw holes where the seal mounting points go (or at least most of them).

Some people that fake out Cheyenne Supers may forget the tailgate handle. Then you have a 71 tailgate handle that is chrome and then the 72 is a chrome cover. Another error is having the Super Emblem on the fender shifted wrong between the left and right sides on the front fenders (which is a odd error to make if you ask me). I am actually going through "upgrading" to a Super... so I have done a lot of reading on doing this correctly as possible (though I went with a 71 type tailgate handle, I like that better and that's my prerogative LOL). At least I got the correct glove box wood grain / emblem for 72. :-D

Yes, my tailgate handle is a chrome cover. I guess the reason why some trucks got the seals and others did not will be a question with no answer. In your research have you found anything that is only on Cheynne Super trucks.

Re: Under Cowl Seal / Buffer?

For this little seal under the cowl cover, only what I know is in this thread. The larger Pillar/Fender Dust Shield that I am working on in Rebuilding / Installing Hinge Pillar to Fender Seal I do believe I read (some?) Custom (Sport?) trucks have them. Then GMC has their own trim level names, I don't know much about them. The Chevy assembly manual calls these shields "Custom Sport Truck - Hinge Pillar to Fender Seals".

The only thing I can say with much certainty is Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super's should always have them.

Back to this little seal under the cowl cover... the question is did trucks ever get these out side of the official "Custom Sport Truck - Hinge Pillar to Fender Seals"? I think if you have larger seals, it seems you should have the smaller seal too.

Not sure if that helps you D.B. but that is about all I know or rather think I know ;-)

That's the plant my truck was made, if I recall correctly. Your Blazer have the larger Pillar/Fender seals too? Just wondering if they go hand and hand.

Thanks - a possible vote that they came with the larger pillar/fender seals? Also that they came with at least some CST (Custom) trims and maybe later year models is a factor too.

So @D.B. the seals we been chatting about isn't a "Cheyenne Super" thing - these seals are just one of many indicators for your trim level. Not sure if you are worried if it is a real Cheyenne Super, nothing you have mention leaves me to believe otherwise. To me I think it's super cool to know all the little bits that make up a trim package, like you find on your Cheyenne Super :-)

Re: Under Cowl Seal / Buffer?

So is gmc Paul the only vendor for these? He won't ship to Canada so I prefer to give my business to someone who will If I can.

I kind of stopped when I found them on GMC Paul's - your guess is as good as mine. I did check LMC - since they have these nice assembly like diagrams but it wasn't shown where they list the Pillar/Fender seals.

If I had know you needed them too, I would have ordered two sets yesterday and shipped that extra set off to you

Happy to help - my brother is always calling me to good stuff for him LOL. Just don't forgot to follow up on those photos/video of your cousin's (I think it was) truck for the cowl to brace fitting ;-)

Re: Under Cowl Seal / Buffer?

I'm going to guess that these are a 69 or70 up addition just like the fender seals are . I've had 2 72 trucks and never seen em on those trucks. Had a ton of 67s.

Re: Under Cowl Seal / Buffer?

Very interesting thread.
Another reason this site keeps me tuned in. I have taken apart many, many trucks and never seen or recall seeing these foam pieces. If I had, I imagine I would have just thought some owner just put it on there. Nice.

Learn something new everyday. Twice today, the other being a spring wave washer is placed between each radio knob and dial.
